ABOUT 200 students from SM Subang Utama benefited from a badminton coaching clinic initiated by Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok.
The clinic was a pilot project started by Loh to promote badminton among students in the Kelana Jaya parliamentary constituency.
A team of coaches from Sunway Lagoon Club conducted the clinic. Chief coach Rudy Yong briefed the participants on the importance of warming up.
He also demonstrated the basic skills involved in badminton.
Loh said clinics would also be held in other schools in the Kelana Jaya constituency.
“We are happy with the response from the students. Badminton has a large following and the clinics will help identify potential talents.
“These young players have a lot of potential and they can become state and national players if they are properly nurtured,” he added.
Loh also demonstrated his badminton skills when he played an exhibition match with SM Subang Utama principal Mokthar Jafaar.
Yong said the clinic was a great success as the students had gained knowledge and practical experience.
He said Loh was very committed to making the clinic a permanent feature.
“Schools are the best place to start nurturing future players,” he said.
