THE RM4mil slip road from Jalan Tengku Kudin to the Jelutong Expressway (JE) is open to traffic.
Penang Municipal Council infrastructure and traffic committee member Tan Yeow Joo said the road was accessible to motorists since Friday.
He said the council and Public Works Department had originally planned to open the 500m-road on June 8 to coincide with the implementation of the two-way traffic on four roads in Jelutong.
“However, we deferred it as we wanted to enhance safety features like installing traffic lights and railings,” he said.
With the new road, Tan said motorists coming from Tesco Hypermarket, e-Gate commercial centre and nearby areas could easily go to George Town and Bayan Baru without having to negotiate the Gelugor roundabout.
“They can save up to 15 minutes when going to George Town by avoiding the busy Jelutong Road and Sungai Pinang Road.
“The slip road will also reduce traffic congestion along the two roads,” he said.
