KUANTAN: For the first time, the Armed Forces welfare body, Bakat, organised a social gathering for wives of personnel serving under United Nations peacekeeping missions abroad.
About 200 people attended the event at the 4th Mechanised Brigade Camp in Batu 10, here, recently.
Bakat chairman Puan Sri Rositah Md Mawi said the gathering would foster closer ties among members and provide a channel for them to raise problems.
“We want to have a direct access to members about their well-being, including that of their children.
“We have deep concern over the matter as your husbands are away from home for a long period and problems do crop up,” she said in a speech.
She noted that some members came all the way from Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Perak.
Rositah said the wives should be proud of their husbands who were picked and entrusted by the UN to be included in peacekeeping forces in various parts of the world.
The Malaysian peacekeeping force’s track record had been excellent, Rositah said.
Later, they were entertained to performances by nasyid group Al-Fursan and listened to a motivational talk by Armed Forces Religious Corp director Brig Jen Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom.
