3,000 turn up for family day carnival

SOME 3,000 people turned up at the Bukit Bendera family day carnival at the Penang Mu-nicipal Park.  

The carnival was organised by service cen-tres of Bukit Bendera MP and the Tanjung Bun-gah, Pulau Tikus, Kebun Bunga and Air Putih state assemblymen. 

Besides Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who is Tanjung Bungah assemblyman, the others who attended the carnival were Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan (Pulau Tikus assemblyman), Quah Kooi Heong (Kebun Bunga) and Datuk Lye Siew Weng (Air Putih)

Also present was Bukit Bendera MP Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye. 

All the assemblymen and the MP sportingly participated in games such as tarik daun upeh (palm fronds pull cart), congkak and sepak tak-raw at the carnival.  

Several booths were set up to cater for voter registration, MyKad checking, health scree-ning and eye checks. 

Children tagged along with their parents and participated in among others traditional games, treasure hunt, 3km fun run and family games. 

Dr Koh declared open the carnival.  

In his speech, he said the carnival was aimed at letting the people mingle and get to know each other. 

“We want the people to come and take part in the carnival and interact with each other,” he said.  

The carnival started with aerobics, followed by the 3km fun run and the other games.  

A snake show was a hit among the people.
