DESPITE his disability, wheelchair-bound Harry Wong took up the challenge of becoming a computer technicians, and he is not about to just stop there.
Now, he has ventured into a new avenue after a friend asked him to hold some basic computer workshops to working adults.
Come June 9, Wong will be conducting a four-hour workshop on computer hardware and software to familiarise adult learners.
Most people know how to use a PC but when they encounter problems, they may not know what to do, he said, adding that some unscrupulous technicians would take advantage of this situation.
There is also a lot of jargon that can make people feel lost in the IT world. We hope to give them a good foundation through the workshop, he said.
Wong will be showing his class of mainly Mandarin-speaking adults how to assemble a personal computer.
Once they know the different parts of the computer, the computer will not be so daunting. The participants will at least know what to do when they encounter a problem, , he said.
Life College Petaling Jaya is sponsoring the venue for the classes.
Chief Executive Officer Chong Weng Lian said the college would provide the classrooms for the workshop and added that a similar workshop would be organised for English speakers.
We believe this is a good cause as we are helping the community stay on top of IT, she said. It is our contribution to life-long learning.
The workshops in both English and Mandarin will be conducted on June 9 (Saturday) from 9am at Life College, Level 6, Bangunan PanGlobal, 1A, Jalan Tandang, 46050 Petaling Jaya. The cost is RM50. For registration, call Wong at 013-394 7147.
