KUANTAN: Petronas Sprinta AAM Malaysian Cub Prix championship expert category winner Ahmad Fazil Sham Ahmad Walat dedicated his victory to his mother.
Ahmad Fazil Sham, 25, hugged his mother Shamsiah Shamsuddin, 59, and whispered “Thanks Mum, Sela-mat Hari Ibu and my victory is my present to you” the moment he completed the expert category event as the first placer on the third leg of the championship held in Taman Bandar, Indera Mahkota, here on May 13.
He beat 17 other riders in the expert final, including his 23-year-old brother Ahmad Fazrul Sham who finished 11th.
He was once beaten by Ahmad Fazrul in the first-leg held in Kluang, Johor last month when he was placed fourth in the race.
“That was weeks ago and in the second leg which was held in Sepang, I was the champion while my brother Fazrul, failed to complete the race,” he said.
Ahmad Fazil said he did not have high hopes of winning the race as he knew that, other riders including favourite Norizman Ismail (bike no 32) and Mohd Zambri Baba (bike no 88) were just as good.
“During the heat held a day earlier, my performance was not good compared to them, and during the final race, I was just giving my best to finish the race safely.
“Norizman who was leading at one time was not lucky as he fell in the third lap. I took advantage of that to push myself into the lead and finally finished first,” he said.
