RESIDENTS of Subang Jaya gave their full support to helping save lives during the 50th Merdeka Celebration Blood Donation Campaign, with more than a hundred donors stepping forward.
Organised by the Holos Community Centre with the help of the Young Malaysian Movement Petaling District and Caring Pharmacy, the campaign was aimed at helping the National Blood Bank, National Kidney Founda- tion of Malaysia and National Transplant Resource Centre.
Held over two days recently, the event that was held in Subang Parade was launched by Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok, who also showed his support by donating blood at the campaign.
“This event is a great opportunity to remind the youngsters of the importance of saving lives. Fifty years ago, our forefathers shed blood to fight for independence and now we give blood to help other people,” Loh said.
“I would like to express gratitude to all the community leaders and volunteers who gave their time to help support this noble cause,” he added.
Throughout the campaign, there were various activities for the public, including free health screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, bone mass density, cataract, glaucoma, and blood analysis. The public enjoyed free Chinese Medicine consultation, too.
The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia also had a small exhibition on their work.
Spicing up the event were musical performances by MCYA & Soulworks, Alan Wong, and Joe & G-race as well as tea appreciation.
“There should be more healthy activities like this to create awareness among young people. I brought my children here so that they can learn more about health and that we can have fun as a family at events such as this,” said Subang resident Lim Teik Chee.
