The Kedah Government contributed RM178,000 to 39 Siamese Buddhist temples and Malaysian Siamese Association branches in the state.

Association president Senator Siw Chun Eam said the Siamese community should be grateful to the state which looked into their welfare although they were a minority.

“The state even set up a executive council port- folio to check the community’s well-being although there are only 30,000 Siamese in the state,” she said.

She said this after state Health, Domestic Trade and Siamese Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Fong Chok Gin presented the allocation to the represen- tatives from the temples and association branches at the Siamese temple in Jalan Teluk Wanjah on Mon-day.

Siw Chun also called on the villagers to highlight their grouses to 24 Siamese community representatives in six districts in the state.

She said the representatives would be meeting Fong once every three months.

She said association patron Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, who was also a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, would distribute RM5,000 each to the 22 association branches in the country.
