LDP road closure to ease traffic woes

MOTORISTS on the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) will not be allowed to enter or exit Jalan Kenari 4 from March 12.

The junction will be closed to traffic during peak hours from 5.30pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Heavy traffic: The LDP slip road below the flyover.

“It will be closed for a week as a trial period to see if it can help ease traffic congestion in the area.

“I hope everyone will co-operate,” said Puchong MP Lau Yeng Peng during a site visit to the affected area recently. Also present were the highway concessionaire officials.

He said motorists could use Persiaran Puchong Jaya Selatan as an alternative to access Pusat Bandar Puchong Jaya during the closure.

The LDP slip road built below the flyover for traffic from Bandar Sunway is used by thousands of motorists on the IOI Mall side of the road and who want to turn towards the Bukit Jalil/Sungai Besi Highway and Old Klang Road/Kinrara and are headed towards the south (Putrajaya).

The three-lane road merges into two near Jalan Kenari 11, creating a bottleneck and affecting the traffic flow.

Accidents along the stretch further disrupt the flow, causing traffic jams in the area.

Lau added that many motorists and Bandar Puchong Jaya residents have complained about the congestion in the area.

“A traffic study conducted on the stretch found that allowing traffic to turn in and out at Jalan Kenari 4 is one of the causes of the traffic woes.

“But closing the junction will only solve the problem temporarily and we are looking into finding a long-term solution,” he said.

Lau said he would call all the developers and Litrak for a meeting soon to find a solution.

He said widening the road was a solution but that it would take some time as it involved acquiring private land.

Meanwhile, Litrak engineering department manager Francisco Anthony Doss said the problem was due to high traffic volume in the area.

“When we built the slip road, it was meant to accommodate about 3,600 vehicles per hour.

“Now it has reached that capacity and that is why the traffic is still moving, although slowly,” he said.
