NIBONG TEBAL: A syndicate that bought cooking gas at domestic price to refill it in cylinders before selling them at a higher price has been busted.
State Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry's enforcement division chief M. Guna Selan said that to avoid detection, syndicate members were using a coconut plantation in Bukit Tambun, here, to carry out their operation .
He said his officers raided the plantation about 10.30am on Tuesday following a two-day surveillance on the syndicate.
He said the raiding party spotted a lorry where the driver was seen behaving suspiciously near the plantation.
“Two men, in their 20s, fled upon seeing the raiding party,” he added.
Guna Selan said his officers seized 504 gas cylinders, a lorry and a forklift during the raid.
He added that the seized items and vehicles were estimated to be worth about RM135,000.
