DUE to some complications with the company handling the draw, the Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) has decided to take over the raffles draw KL06.
MPC acting president and CEO Datuk Zainal Abu Zarin said about 40,000 tickets were sold during the Fespic Games held in Kuala Lumpur last year.
“We have allocated RM1mil for the prizes.''
“But as we have six million raffles draw tickets to be sold within a month, we want to announce that we have channelled the tickets to Pos Malaysia where every citizen and corporate company can purchase them.
“So far, we have distributed four million raffles draw ticket to Pos Malaysia,'' said Zainal at a press conference at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil last week.
MPC will also distribute tickets through Bank Simpanan Nasional and RTM to reach out to the public.
Zainal added that against all odds, the Malaysian contingent had a record medal haul by winning 44 gold, 59 silver and 71 bronze medals in the Fespic Games in KL last year.
“We organised the biggest and most memorable games with 46 countries competing in 19 sports.
“Besides this, I was elected as the Asian Paralympic Council (APC) president and Malaysia is now the secretariat for the APC.
“With all this in mind, I think we should be able to sell the tickets with the public's support,'' he said.
Each ticket is RM3. The date for the draw is March 10.
A Mercedes Benz C200, a Naza Ria and two Perodua MyVi are among the main prizes for the raffles draw.
The money from the sales of the tickets will be distributed to three areas.
The first is to build a Fespic Garden in Kuala Lumpur and a Paralympics Visionary Sculpture to commemorate the success of the athletes.
The second is setting up Koperasi Paralympic (Koppara) to ensure the welfare of the disabled athletes and its members.
And the third is a permanent building and operations funds for the MPC for the betterment of disabled athletes.
