KOTA TINGGI: The National Union of Bank Employees has donated RM30,000 to help members who were hit by the floods in Johor.
Its general secretary J. Solomon presented a cheque for the amount to Johor branch chairman Michael Tan Eng Hong on Jan 20.
He said the union's executive council had an emergency meeting on Jan 17 and decided to set aside the money.
Solomon, accompanied by the state branch officials and nine working committee members of the state, also visited some of the union members and their families especially those in Kota Tinggi.
The local union representatives as well as ordinary members from Hong Leong Bank, Maybank, CIMB and Public Bank in Kota Tinggi hosted a tea party for Solomon and his guests from Johor.
He said union officials were moved when a member, a single mother, related her predicament of raising five children after her house and possessions were destroyed in the floods.
He said the union has also decided to set up a fund to assist the woman.
