BOTH defending champions Ah Choon Road Runners and Adidas Kuala Lumpur Veteran Association (KLVA) clung on to their titles at the Penang Round The Island Relay 2006 held at the Esplanade recently.
The Ah Choon runners continued their domination in the men's open category of the annual race in a time of 4:35.17s while KLVA reigned supreme in the men's veteran category with a time of 5:06.52s.
In the men's open category, the Ah Choon runners were simply in a class of their own as runners-up Old Two (O2) Hiking Club finished more than 26 minutes behind with a time of 5:01.27s.
The third placing went to Ipoh Brooks Running Club which clocked 5:03.05s.
In the men's veteran category, KLVA saw off the challenge from closest rival Old & Young, who could only finish more than eight minutes behind with a time of 5:15.14s.
Penang Forward SC posted 5:20.54s to finish third.
The annual 72.7km race, into its 29th year, saw the participation of 12 teams.
The Penang Amateur Athletics Association (PAAA), with the cooperation of Penang Youth and Sports Department and Penang Municipal Council organised the competition with each team registering 15 runners.
Mens Open: 1. Ah Choon Road Runners 4:35.17s, 2. Old Two (O2) Hiking Club 5:01.27s, 3. Ipoh Brooks Running Club 5:03.05s.
Mens Veteran Open: 1. Adidas Kuala Lumpur Veteran Association 5:06.52s, 2. Old & Young 5:15.14s, 3. Penang Forward SC 5:20.54s.
