THE Selangor Fire and rescue Services (SFRS) department has learnt to deal with crank calls from children. Its director Amer Yusof said same persons often make those calls to the emergency number 994.
Officers picking up the call would usually tell the callers not to do that.
“Any measures taken are in hope to reduce such calls as many of them are children who confess to just 'main-main' (for fun) only. Their parents will also be informed that their children had been up to no good,'' he told reporters after presenting the excellence service awards to 86 department staff at a leading hotel in USJ, Subang.
Amer said although the department treats all calls to the emergency number seriously, it is a waste of time when the call is a hoax.
However, he said the public has been very cooperative in reporting major fires, which has helped the department to carry out their work effectively.
Since the beginning of the year, SFRS has recorded 48 major fires in the state.
Most of the smaller fires, he added, were bush fires caused by the hot weather.
The public can call SFRS at 03-78464444 to report fires.
