HE is Maybank's hero when his goal made Tigers the champions. The said is Abdul Halim Abdul Hadi whose goal in the recent AmBank Inter-Financial Institutions futsal competition final led them to victory.
In the final against CIMB “B,” Halim was in brilliant form and scored in the second half to earn a 1-0 win for Maybank.
Maybank team manager Nazari Husin hailed his players as heroes.
“They had given their very best through- out the tournament. I am particularly happy with their performance against KWSP in the quarterfinal. We were down 2-0 in the first-half but managed to beat them 3-2.
“We hope to come back to defend the title,” he said.
Maybank walked away with a champion's trophy, medals and RM2,000. CIMB “B” settled for RM1,000 while semi-finalists Public Bank and CIMB “A” each received medals and RM500.
In the women's final, RHB Bank beat AmBank 2-0 and Public Bank were the winners in the veterans’ category.
AmBank Group public affairs director Syed Anuar Syed Ali said the competition recorded the most number of entries with 40 teams compared with the previous years.
“We are happy. The encouraging response was also due to the fact that we added prizes for the women, open and veteran (above 38 years old) categories. We contributed RM20,000 and the top prize was RM2,000 (for the open category) which was the same as last year,” he said.
He said the organiser was happy that new teams such as Bursa, KWSP, Multi-purpose Insurance and UOB participated in the competition for the first time.
“Next year, we hope to get more teams with 60 in mind. We can achieve the target,” he said.
