AN EVENT, known as Million Light Offerings, will be held at the Chinese Assembly Hall from tomorrow until Sunday.
A 20-foot structure bearing 840 images of the Buddha at Mahaboudhi stupa in Bodhgaya has been set up so that people can make offerings in the form of flowers or lights. The latter can be sponsored at RM1a light from 10am to 10pm.
“Making offerings to Buddha earns merits in big proportions,'' said Losang Dragpa Buddhist Society spiritual co-ordinator, the venerable Thubten Dechen. “These merits help them overcome obstacles to the donor's good health and to their success in work and business.
“Making offerings can also bring auspicious benefits too, and can bloom into wealth, peace and happiness for those who do it,” he said.
“These merits can also be dedicated to family members and children so that all their hindrances in life can be overcome too. And, then it opens the way to success, glory and enlightenment. ''
The three-day event will be presided by the most venerable Khen Rinpoche Lama Lhundup who is the abbot of the renowned Kopan Monastery at the foothills of the Himalayas in Kathmundu.
He will preside at several puja (prayers), including the Medicine Buddha Puja (prayers for health), Dzambala Pujas (prayers for wealth) and Tara Puja (prayers to attain success for specific projects).
KhenRinpoche will also bless devotees and participants during the evenings of the first two days.
