ABOUT 400 wives of elected representatives nationwide will be gathering in Penang for a four-day annual event beginning tomorrow.

Hosted by Association of Wives of Penang State Assemblymen and MPs (Persatuan Bunga Tanjung) this year, the programme will include games, dinners, visits around Penang and team-building activities.

Bunga Tanjung chairman Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng said the gathering was to promote ties among the elected representatives' wives.

“The annual programme used to feature badminton matches but this was changed in 2004 when the late Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood included other meaningful activities,” she said.

This year’s gathering will have events like bowling, darts, carom and congkak game, followed by a dinner at Hotel Equatorial tomorrow night.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is expected to attend the dinner.

A team-building game will be held at the Teluk Bahang Forestry Park on Sunday.

Chooi said the visitors would also be taken for sightseeing to popular tourist spots like the Fort Cornwallis, State Museum, Khoo Kongsi, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and the Tropical Fruit Farm.

“This will in a way help promote Penang to the other states,” she told a press conference yesterday.
