RM550,000 to rebuild school

THE CIMB Group handed over RM550,000 collected from the CIMB-Niaga Jogja Relief Fund for the construction of Glagah Public Elementary School or SDN Glagah which was completely destroyed during the recent Jogja quake. 

The CIMB-Niaga Jogja Relief Fund was initiated by the CIMB Group on June 1.

Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Nazir Razak pledged RM100,000 from the CIMB Group and promised to match one-for-one every ringgit donated by Malaysians.  

All Bumiputra-Commerce Bank and Southern Bank Berhad branches placed donation boxes in their banking halls and opened dedicated accounts in both banks to collect funds from the public. 

The total of RM550,000 includes CIMB group’s initial pledge and its promise of matching the donations. Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings and Commerce International Group contributed another RM100,000. 

Nazir presented the cheque to Bank Niaga President Commissioner Datuk Halim Muhamat for the restoration of SDN Glagah. 

At the presentation, Nazir thanked Malaysians for their generous contributions.
