SUNGAI PETANI: The RM387mil Sungai Petani hospital, officially named Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital, will be opening soon.
It was officially handed over to the Health Ministry by the Public Works Department (JKR) yesterday after a delay of over a year.
JKR deputy director Datuk Muhamad Gading handed over the Certificate of Fitness to Health Ministry secretary- general Datuk Dr Mohd Nasir Md Asraf yesterday.
Dr Mohd Nasir said the hospital would be fully operational by September.
This is to give time to the hospital staff to familiarise themselves with the state-of-the-art equipment and to undergo training to operate the machines, he told reporters after the handing-over ceremony at the hospital in Aman Jaya here yesterday.
The hospital is sited on a 10ha plot of land in Aman Jaya and has 498 beds.
It has a nursing hostel and college which can take in 360 trainees at one time.
Dr Mohd Nasir said the hospital would be a referral hospital for patients in Kedah.
The hospital staff must show a high level of commitment when using the hi-tech machines,'' he said.
Pesent were Kedah state Health director Datuk Zahari Che Dan and Sungai Petani Hospital director Dr Harif Fadzillah Che Dan.
