RM12mil boost for city council

JOHOR BARU: The Tourism Ministry has allocated RM12mil to the city council here to implement four development projects.

Mayor Datuk Abdul Latiff Yusof said one project involved the construction of a RM3mil heritage trail from Jalan Gereja to Jalan Tan Hiok Nee.

“Visitors on the heritage trail can savour and appreciate the historical buildings and multiple houses of worship along the road,” he said recently.

“We are preserving our old buildings. We are following the example set by Singapore which preserved their old roads such as Arab Street and Sultan Street.”

Abdul Latiff said the money would be used to build paths, benches and other infrastructure as well as plant trees along the trail, and to upgrade Jalan Trus.

Other projects involved setting up an ecology garden and a “Rumah Johor” at Hutan Bandar.

“The fourth project is a botanic garden,” said Abdul Latiff.
