THE 14th IUSTI Asia-Pacific Conference, to be held in Kuala Lumpur in July, will address advances in HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI).
The conference is themed STI: Challenges and Strategies and is organised by the International Union Against Sexually Transmitted Diseases (IUSTI) from July 27 to 30 at the Legend Hotel.
The Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia and the Malaysian Medical Association in collaboration with the Health Ministry also support the event.
The conference will include a plenary sessions on STI prevention programmes, management of HIV/ AIDS, the role of legislation in prostitution, elimination of STI and sexual and reproductive health.
The training workshops will focus on communicating sexual issues to patients, ethics and law and the doctor and Cryo-surgery.
There will also be symposiums pertaining to the theme.
There will be about 50 speakers from around the world at the conference.
Organising committee secretary Dr Hemendra Doshi said the workshop and interactive sessions would be of interest to physicians in hospital and private practice, public health experts, members of organizations concerned with the impact of STI/ HIV on the society and other healthcare professionals.
“At the same time, the conference will also be a good opportunity for fostering partnerships towards better prevention management of STI/ HIV,” said Doshi.
He added that there were 70,000 people with HIV in Malaysia.
