HIS shop was dark and dusty. Long tongs, big hammers and sacks containing moulded pieces of iron lay at the bottom of the cool forge. The blacksmith was wearing a soiled T-shirt, cap and a pair of grey trousers. Tan Chim Sin’s forge was not fired up for work that day.
His and another blacksmith shop in Jalan Tukang Besi in Malacca looked old and ghastly compared to a bright green tattoo parlour that had opened nearby.
