Talk on beads 

Sarawak Museum will hold a talk entitled “The Blue Beads Mystery” at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak on June 23. The speaker is honorary beads curator and writer Heidi Munan, who will talk on the importance of blue beads in rituals and healing among indigenous communities in Borneo. Bird race 

The 18th Fraser's Hill International Bird Race will be held on June 24 and 25. There will be a host of other activities including a batik-making demonstration, bird watching, slide show, archery and blowpipe competition and wildlife and nature exhibition. Entrepreneur forum 

Johor Baru Umno is organising a K-entrepreneur forum at 9am on June 18 at the Puteri Pacific Hotel. Participation fee is RM30 per person. Those interested can call Kamal Abdul Kadir at 012-733 1500. 

Watching football 

Seven large screens are up in Danga Bay for football fans to watch the World Cup for the duration of the tournament. The screens will be at the Festive Street Mall, Rose Garden, Aseana, Titi Caca, On Top of Danga Palace, Beach Club and Jumbo Seafood Village. 

Father’s Day treat

Hash run 

The Johor Baru City Hash House Harriers is organising a fund-raising Red Dress Run on July 1 at the Spastic Centre, Jalan Dato Mentri, at 5.30pm. Tickets are at RM70 with food, drinks, and entertainment. Participants are to wear red. Those who register early are eligible for a free t-shirt or sarong. Folk melodies

Golf tournament 

GOLFERS stand a chance to win a Proton Gen-2 when they take part in the 12th Kiwanis-Starhill charity golf tournament organised by the Johor Baru Kiwanis Club on June 30. The entry fee is RM200 for members of the Starhill Golf Resort and RM250 for non-members. The closing date for entries is on June 23.
