When one steps into a restaurant that sells chicken rice dishes, one would of course expect that and nothing else.
Things have changed though at The Chicken Rice Shop outlets as they now serve more than just chicken rice.
The new addition is almost a complete turn around but there is a bigger reason for the change.
The Chicken Rice Shop’s director Kah Lin Wong said the idea to introduce the new dish had always been in the plans but it was not until recently that it finally happened.
“We had been thinking about it but when the customers suggested it, we knew we had to give the Curry Laksa a shot,” said Kah.
There had been numerous suggestions from customers to have the dish in the menu and because it was such a hot Malaysian favourite it was not difficult at all to introduce it.
“Some dishes, really need no introduction at all,” said Kah.
The Curry Laksa comes in a big bowl with generous portions of chicken slices, tofu, fish balls and long beans.
Priced at RM6.90 per bowl, the dish comes in choices of yellow noodles, wantan noodles, kuey teow or mee hoon.
“Customers can also choose between steam chicken, barbeque chicken and roast chicken to be added to their laksa,” said Kah.
Kah recommended side dishes like Gado-Gado, Fried Spring Rolls and Top Hats (Pai Tee) as accompaniments.
“These are the restaurant's popular snacks and have been in the menu for some time now,” said Kah.
Soon customers who find the noodles not spicy enough can add on sambal to it, something which, the outlet is currently working on.
The Curry Laksa recipe belongs to Kah's family but has since been modified by her colleagues to suit the restaurant's standards.
There are 32 Chicken Rice Shop outlets nationwide and they also do catering for special occasions.
