POPULAR artistes Zainal Abidin, Pija, Deja Moss and Rem will be performing at the Piccadilly Revival Grand Showcase at the Orange in Jalan Kia Peng, Kuala Lumpur on June 9.
It is Piccadilly’s first revival showcase as there were four reunions held at Grand Modesto’s every Saturday from May 6 to May 27.
The first reunion held on May attracted about 2,000 people, some of who were regulars at Piccadilly’s tea dance events.
Piccadilly’s original promoter Hasnul Zuhairi said Piccadilly’s tea dance was a hit among teenagers in 1987, many of who were now in the corporate world.
“Our aim is to get as many members as we can to relive the days of R&B and retro music sung by the likes of Toni Braxton, Arrested Development, Soul II Soul and Milli Vanilli.
“We want to open our membership to others who love this kind of music and not just “Piccadilly fans”.
“Unlike the tea party in Piccadilly, the showcase is for those above the age of 18,” said Hasnul during a recent press conference held at Grand Modesto’s.
Also present at the press conference were Zainal Abidin and Pija.
Zainal, who had performed in Piccadilly before to promote his signature Hijau said the aim of the showcase was to reach out to get more people to listen to retro and R&B music.
“With their support, we can try to create an avenue for youth’s today to showcase their talents,” Zainal said.
“Eventually, we want to raise funds, which will be channelled through some charity organisations.
“At the same time we want to develop a place for youths to hang out at and show their talents,” he said.
Tickets for the showcase are sold at RM50 at Bond@Avenue K, Activefans, Lotus Restaurant in Jalan Binjai and Craven’s Café in Jalan Kolam Air in Ampang Jaya. Part of the proceeds will go to charity.
