STONES of various hues, textures, shapes and sizes had visitors gaw-king in awe at the Stone Art Com-petition and Exhibition held at the Botanic Gardens Information Cen-tre.
Carefully arranged on three long wooden tables, the water, mountain and wax stones each had a “character of its own” – demanding the undivided attention of the ad-mirer.
In opening the exhibition, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Quah Kooi Heong said this was the first time such an event was being organised in conjunction with the Penang In-ternational Floral Festival.
“It is very encouraging to note that despite being held for the first time, the competition and exhibition managed to attract 180 entries from all over the country.
“Collecting these unique, artistic stones is considered a new hobby here although it is quite popular among the international community.
“Local stone art enthusiasts and collectors should get to know one another during the event so that they can learn more about the various stones,” he said.
