Malacca: Persibu Football Club scored a convincing 4-1 win over BSO Football Club to lift the Muhibbah Cup in the inaugural Melaka Bandaraya Bersejarah 2006 football competition organised by theKota Melaka MIC branch recently.
In all, 16 teams including several from the districts of Alor Gajah, Jasin and Merlimau were in the fray in the preliminary round league matches in mid April.
In the semi-finals, BSO Football Club edged Tampoi Soocer Club 1-0 while favour-ites Persibu coasted to a comfortable 3-1 win over MTC Rangers. Both matches were played at the Stadium Hang Tuah.
In the final at the same venue and kicked off by Datuk S.Subramanaiam the Parlia-mentary Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, Persibu opened accounts in the 20th minute through Mohd Fadhli Che Lah.
Banking superbly on breakaway raids on either flanks, Persibu moved 2-0 ahead in the 50th minute. Speedy Mohd Aoli Ahmad latched on to perfect cross from Ismail Harun on the left flank to beat BOS Football Club goalkeeper Syed Abu Bakar Murtazaa from close range.
Two further goals by striker Naza Latip (60th and 75th minutes) raised Persibu’s tally to four while Bakar Ismail Jen reduced the deficit for BOS Football Club in the closing stages of the game.
Kota Melaka MP Wong Nai Chee and Datuk R.Raghavan, the state executive councillor for Youth and Sports handed out the Muhibbah Challenge Cup, medals, prize money and souvenirs to the champions, runners-up, referee and linesmen as well as key organising committee officials.
