SAPP unveils party selections


KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has appointed Au Kaw Wah, the Elopura state assemblyman cum party assistant secretary-general, as its new youth leader and one of the party's vice presidents at its 96th supreme council meeting last Sunday. 

In a statement, the Barisan Nasional Sabah component party said the supreme council also agreed to appoint the state Assistant Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology Melanie Chia Chui Ket as its new leader for the women’s wing. She was also appointed one of the party's vice presidents. 

Au was the deputy youth leader before taking the seat left by Datuk Frankie Chong Yu Chee who won the vice president’s post contest in the party election and Chia, who was also the deputy women’s chief, filled the slot vacated by the party's head, Datuk Dr Chua Soon Booi who contested and won the vice president’s post. 

The party also said Datuk Rashid Gador was re-appointed a vice president, while Datuk Richard Yong retained his seat as the party secretary-general while Foo Fook Ming was appointed his assistant. 

Meanwhile, Datuk Wong Yit Ming who did not contest to defend his vice president’s post was appointed as treasurer-general, replacing Tawau MP Shim Paw Fatt who won the vice president’s seat. 

Kassim Sulaiman, the former organising secretary, was appointed the party information chief replacing Norbert Chin Chuan Siong who won the vice president’s post while Kassim’s former assistant, Edward Dagul is the new organising secretary. 

The supreme council also appointed Irene Chan Kam Din as the new appointed member council. 

The statement said the posts of assistant to the treasurer-general, information chief and organising secretary had yet to be filled. – Bernama.
