HOTEL Istana's Coffee House, the Taman Sari Brasserie is showcasing its Penang Mai promotion, which zooms in on hot and spicy nasi kandar. Preparing the dish is none other than nasi kandar expert chef Mamu Penang. Mamu who has more than 15 years experience in the business is a specialist on nasi kandar, wining diners with his clever use of spices that bring about theauthentic flavour in the accompanying dishes he prepares. Unique broth

Want to enjoy a unique broth recipe? Try the Yasai To Tofu Kami Nabe promotion at Kampachi restaurant of Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur. The outlet is currently promoting the Assorted Vegetable Broth with Spanish Mackerel, available for lunch and dinner. The broth is prepared with carrots, leeks, Japanese cabbage and beancurd. Prawn fest

Here's a festival of prawns you will never forget, featuring five prawn dishes in various preparation styles. The Festival ofPrawns promotion at The Emperor is priced at RM28++ onwards per dish and they are available until month end. The cooking methods are created specially for water and tiger prawns and the dishes are cooked either in soup, deep-fried or baked among others. A family-run business, the outlet is known for its good food, warm service and reasonable prices. Its cosy, laid-back and unpretentious ambience makes it the ideal venue for private functions. Red ginger plants line the front entrance. It has a small and tight menu with main courses served in giant bowls.

One must get used to using the fingers when dining here as spoons are for the gravy only. You can be assured of fast service. Serves authentic Nasi Padang as the chefs are from Indonesia. The spices are imported from Indonesia. The outlet is crowded during lunch, so make reservations. The dinner crowd is more relaxed.  



PASSAGE THRU’ INDIA, 235 Jalan Tun Razak, KL (Tel: 03-2145 0366). Business Hrs: Lunch (11.30am-3pm); dinner (6:30pm-11pm); Sunday Buffet Lunch (11am-3pm). Serves Indian cuisine ranging from the North to South and East to West. Many must-try dishes. There is a wide selection of naan and tandoori from the a la carte menu. Try the Kulfi, an Indian ice cream for dessert. Private rooms and function halls are available for booking.  


RESTORAN MANJA, 23 Jalan SS3/29, PJ (Tel: 03-7877 1814). Business Hrs: Daily (6.30am-11pm). Besides Indian food, it also serves Chinese noodles, Thai and Indonesian specialities. Its chefs from India stress on healthy cooking, keeping meals low in salt and sugar, and using minimal oil. Known for its breakfast selection that includes Roti Tisu, Nasi Lemak, apom, a range of thosai and two types of puttu.

There are over 80 dishes and prices of the lobster dishes are fixed. The lobsters can be prepared in various styles.

Its lush setting creates the perfect ambience for a romantic interlude, well away from the hectic pace of the city. Serves a wide selection of Thai appetisers, BBQ sea bass, caramelised prawns and a must-try lemongrass drink.  


COCA RESTAURANT, U1-F-OB2, Oasis Boulevard 2, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre, Bandar Sunway (Tel: 03-7494 4844). Business Hrs: Daily (11am-11pm). There are five other outlets in KL Plaza, Subang Parade, Bangsar Shopping Centre and 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Popular for its use of fresh ingredients and sauces imported directly from Bangkok. Known among regulars for its special Thai sauces. For lunch and a quick meal, there is Thai food and steamboat. A daily buffet lunch featuring 27 items is available between 11am and 5pm.  



MALAYAN AROMAS, Concourse area, Ground Floor, City Square Centre, KL (Tel: 03-2162 1566 ext 260). Business Hrs: Mon-Fri (8am-10pm); Sat, Sun and Public Holidays (10am-10pm). A venue for tasty local food, Western and Italian dishes. Also serves good local coffees. Its menu features a range of sandwiches, pastas, hearty main courses of Cantonese Fried Kuey Teow and Cajun Roast Chicken among others. There’s also Teo Chew Porridge.  



MEJAAKU CAFة AND RESTAURANT, F29 Level One, Maju Junction Shopping Centre, Jalan Sultan Ismail, KL (Tel: 03-2691 0818). Business Hrs: Daily (10am-10pm). It has a colonial setting. The outlet offers rare Sarawakian specialities, combining ethnic food and Western delights. There are many must-try here but house speciality is Mee Kolok. For a filling meal, go for the variety of single rice dishes or Western dishes. 



ZEN JAPANESE RESTAURANT, Lot 082-FU2, First Floor, Oasis Boulevard 2, Sunway Pyramid (Tel: 03-7492 4922). Business Hrs: Mon-Thurs (11am-midnight); Fri-Sun (11am-1am). Pork-free. A swanky outlet with a design similar to the chic urban Japanese restaurants in Japan. Has an outstanding selection of seafood. The menu is fairly extensive and includes French-style food. There are also the value-for-money set lunch and dinner. Offers a full wine bar as well as a large selection of sake.  


KIN NO UMA JAPANESE RESTAURANT, Palace of the Golden Horses, MINES Resort City, Jalan Kuda Emas, Seri Kembangan, Selangor (Tel: 03-8943 2333). Serves a variety of grilled and deep-fried dishes, hot and cold noodles, hot pot dishes and desserts.
