More than just a station to buy petrol

FOR residents living near Jalan Kolam Ayer Lama in Ampang Jaya, the latest Petronas service station is more than just a petrol station.

The “hyperstation,” an initiative of Petronas Dagangan Bhd, not only offers refuelling services and friendly smiles of staff at hand, there is also a Kedai Mesra convenience store and shops offering food and beverages and a variety of other services.

It invites customers to stop for fuel and, if you’re hungry, this is the place to stop the engine and head for food.

Forgotten someone’s birthday? Not to worry, you can get gifts and flowers. Or you can pick up some reading material on your way home.

Tagged as a ”Street Mall,” the Jalan Kolam Ayer Lama Petronas Service Station has eight companies under one roof. They are McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts and Golden Oven Bakery, Peri Anggun Florist, Lecka Lecka Italian gelato, Jenama Sakti (money changer), Mailboxes Etc (office services provider), and a nasi kandar outlet.

Petronas Dagangan managing director/ CEO Ibrahim Marsidi described the hyperstation as unique among the 780 petrol stations nationwide because it was the first with a street mall concept.

“Through this concept, we are able to expand the range of products and services offered to our customers and, at the same time, create a unique identity for this particular Petronas service station,” he said at the recent opening of the hyperstation.

Situated on 1.48ha land, the hyperstation is Petronas’ fifth since the first one was launched in 2003 in Setiawangsa.

The other hyperstations are at Petronas Quay, Pulau Langkawi, Bentong R&R on Karak Highway and in Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang.

“Petronas Dagangan has collaborated with various companies in shaping our own identity while striving to meet customers’ needs,” said Ibrahim.

The company, he added, had 32 corporate partners offering various services at their service stations. Among the partners are Maybank, Giant, Pos Malaysia and Transnasional.

At the opening of the hyperstation in Jalan Kolam Ayer Lama, Petronas Dagangan also announced the Kad Mesra Car Craze contest grand prize-winner for February.

Misebah Sanjan, 45, from Klang, won a Proton Perdana V6 worth RM98,000.

The engineer with Risda said he spent approximately RM1,000 on petrol a month as he often went outstation.

The father-of-six commutes from his home in Kampung Kebun Baru, Teluk Panglima Garang, to work in Jalan Ampang.

“I am extremely happy to have won the first prize as I have been car-less since October.

“My previous car, a Proton Saga was involved in an accident and was a total loss,” said Misebah.

Since the accident, Misebah has relied on lifts from friends or borrowed vehicles from his siblings to get to work.

He has been a Kad Mesra user for the last two years.

Also present at the event was Petronas Dagangan Bhd chairman Datuk Anuar Ahmad, who handed the mock key to Misebah.
