STUDENTS are expected to turn up in full force for the Power 10km Run at the Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur on March 19.
Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA) secretary S. Vegiyathuman said the Kuala Lumpur Schools Sports Council (MSSKL) and Kuala Lumpur Education Department had agreed to promote the run and distributed entry forms to all schools in KL.
“As such, we are expecting a good student turnout. The run is also an ideal opportunity for seniors runners to gauge their progress,” said Vegiyathuman after receiving sponsorship from Milo and 100 Plus, recently.
The Power 10km Run is jointly organised by Bata Malaysia and FTAAA.
The run has been hailed as a gathering of social runners from all walks of life.
Nestlé sports marketing manager Ng Ping Loong said they had been involved in the run since its inception.
“The run is one of the most popular road races in the FTAAA calendar and we are proud to be part of the event.
“Every year, the number of participants is increasing. We hope to see a big turnout at this year’s run as well,” said Ng.
Bata Malaysia senior marketing manager Datuk James Selvaraj said the run was their way of promoting healthy lifestyle among Malaysians.
“The run has consistently been attracting about 5,000 participants every year. We are anticipating another big turnout for this year’s run as well.
“Malaysia’s future in long-distance running lies with the youngsters.
“We have to create more opportunities for them to improve. We have also seen many participants from the Power 10km Run moving up to represent the state and country,” said James.
