RESIDENTS and the business community at Batu 4, Jalan Kelang Lama, are requesting for more parking bays in the vicinity.
The area, which has a market, a school, a bank and shops, is one of the busiest stretches in Jalan Kelang Lama but sorely lacks parking space.
Lee who had been fined for illegally parking her motorcycle in front of the market said she had no choice, as there were no other places to park.
“What else can we do? There is no other place to park. They (City Hall officers) know that we are only buying vegetables,” she said.
Residents decided to seek help from the Seputeh MCA branch.
Branch chairman Dr Sua Chong Keh, FT MCA public service bureau deputy chairman Banie Chin and a few party officials visited the area recently to check on the situation. They were accompanied by representatives of City Hall's Urban Transport Department.
“The road leading into Chong Wen School also requires more parking bays and I have asked City Hall to cover the drains so there would be more room for cars to park,” said Dr Sua.
He added that City Hall had agreed to look into the matter.
Dr Sua also requested for a U-turn installed in front of the market at the junction of Jalan Kelang Lama and Jalan Kuchai Lama and another one in front of the Taman Desa hospital in Taman Desa.
“Fourth mile is one of the busiest areas here and we are not dealing with a highway but a local road, so the public’s needs should be looked into,” said Chin.
