LAST Friday, film buffs queued up outside Menara Star, Petaling Jaya, as they waited to pick up free tickets to Memoirs of a Geisha as part of The Star Online's 10 Hundred Tickets Redemption promotion in conjunction with its 10th anniversary.
One thousand tickets to the big-screen adaptation of Arthur Golden's best-selling novel were given away. The tickets are valid for two special screenings of the film, which stars Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, Ken Watanabe and Datuk Michelle Yeoh, at 10.30am on Jan 21 at GSC 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya, and GSC Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, respectively.
Also on display during the event were two kimonos used during the filming, courtesy of Buena Vista International.
Student Geron Tan, 22, arrived at 8am and was first in line for the tickets. Although Tan has not read the book, he still wants to watch the movie as it is a Steven Spielberg production and he is a fan of the three actresses appearing in the movie.
Students Chong Man Yim and Ong Yee Wen, both 19, can't wait to watch the movie as they are big fans of Yeoh. While collecting their tickets, they also grabbed the opportunity to have photographs taken with the kimonos on display.
The Star Online’s Memoirs of a Geisha ticket redemption was jointly organised with Buena Vista International and Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Sdn Bhd. Memoirs of a Geisha will open in Malaysian cinemas on January 19.
The Star Online’s 10 Hundred Tickets Redemption promotion, held to commemorate its 10th anniversary, has 10 movies lined up for ticket redemption.
