SETTING aside their power suits, Wanita MCA members donned their aprons and started baking Cookies of Love for a noble cause.
The women included Wanita MCA chief Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and her deputy Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.
Dr Ng said the cookies would be distributed to poor single mothers in Malaysia with children under 12 years old during the four major festive seasons. The mothers would be identified through their children's schools.
“Single mothers feel the loneliness during festive seasons such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and the Lantern Festival. We hope to bring them love and hope through these cookies,” Dr Ng said during a baking session at the Multi-Purpose Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur recently.
“For the coming Chinese New Year, we will produce 5,000 boxes, each containing two packets of cookies. The cookies, which come in orange, butter and chocolate flavours, are based on deputy MPTC director Agnes Chang's recipe,'' she added.
Dr Ng said other gifts like pencil boxes and story books could also be included in the cookies boxes, depending on what each state preferred to give their recipients.
She said a nationwide campaign would be launched by MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting's wife Datin Seri Wendy Ong at Sungei Wang Plaza tomorrow. The campaign was in line with the party's caring society concept. .
