State assemblymen are the scapegoats for every weakness, carelessness and mistake that the Government and its leaders make, Lau Chin Hoon (BN - Pemanis) told the assembly.
Lau said that representatives needed a system to support their administrative work, adding that they needed sufficient staff and facilities to move the local development agenda.
“Time passes and year after year, state assemblymen are seen as if they are sidelined, especially when they do not get the administrative and skilled support needed to support the people’s agenda” he said during the debate session.
Lau said it would take huge expenditure to give impact for more effective administrative and development management, but if all was done in a proper way without obstacles, the delivery system would be more efficient.
Earlier, State Public Works and Housing Committee chairman Baderi Dasuki said the state had paid RM17.3mil in compensation to five Felda schemes affected by the Senai-Desaru Highway project.
“The highway is scheduled to be completed by 2007, but it may be a little behind schedule due to the land transfer process but hopefully by 2007, it will be completed,” he said.
