THE Lingnan School was part of an important chapter in the history of Chinese ink painting.
Lingnan, which means south of the mountain, referred to Canton in ancient times. Many of the artists then studied in Japan, hence their style was influenced by western art. Works created by them and their followers are outstanding examples of east-meets-west.
