Deepavali open house in Johor 

Johor MIC chairman Datuk K.S. Balakrishnan will hold an open house tomorrow from 7.30pm to 10.30pm at his residence in No. 1, Jalan Jagung 8, Bandar Baru Uda, Tampoi, Johor Baru. Tenggaroh state assemblyman Datuk S. Krishnasamy will host an open house tomorrow from 7pm to 10pm at the community hall in No. 5, 1/40 Bandar Putra, Segamat. Gambir state assemblyman Asojan Muniyandy will hold an open house on Saturday, Nov 5 from 7pm to 10pm at Dewan Serbaguna, Bukit Gambir, Muar.  

Saree queen contest 

Malacca Club will hold a saree queen contest on Nov 12 in conjunction with Deepavali. The contest is open to ladies of all races, including foreigners. The saree queen will receive a cash prize of RM1,000, first runner-up RM700 and second runner-up RM500. Tickets for the event are available at RM300 per table or RM35 per person. Timber industry workshop 

Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) is organising a workshop on “Rules of Origin” (ROO) in Kuching, Sibu and Miri on Nov 7, 8 and 9 respectively. The workshop aims to educate manufacturers and exporters in Sarawak on ROO and how they can benefit from it. ROO is the criteria used to determine the country of origin of manufactured goods and forms the basis of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements. The workshop will be held at STIDC Theaterette in Kuching, Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu, and Grand Palace Hotel, Miri. Entry is free.
