JOHOR-born Malay sous chef Hasbullah Sabani’s selected traditional kampung dishes are featured at Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur’s buka puasa buffet. The buffet highlights over 70 dishes daily and the promotion is priced at RM80++ per adult and RM40++ per child. Packages are also available for groups above 60 persons at RM70++ per person. Kampung fare  

A Ramadan buffet with the theme Bazaar Ramadan is available daily at the Dewan Raja Laut of Quality Hotel City Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Highlighting traditional kampung fare, the buffet features more than five rotating menus. The promotion is priced at RM45++ per adult and RM22++ for children and senior citizens. Nyonya cuisine 

TASTE Penang and Nyonya cuisines during Ramadan at three of Penang Village’s outlets in the Klang Valley. The Ramadan Buffet is priced at RM25.90++ per adult and RM15.90++ for children below 12 years old. For reservations, call 03-7722 4288 (TTDI), 03-8024 6828 (USJ 9) and 03-8888 4268 (Putrajaya).  

MAJU PALACE RESTAURANT, Level 5, Menara Maju Perdana, Jalan Sultan Ismail, KL (Tel: 03-2691 8822). Business Hrs: Daily, lunch (11.30am-3pm); dinner (6pm-11pm). It offers a scenic view of the city with six private rooms and a main dining hall that is ideal for weddings and social functions. Serves Chinese food with a twist, such as the Baked Australian Scallop in Cream Cheese Sauce. Uses only fins from Coral sharks, which are caught for their meat as well as their fins. Besides venison, the restaurant serves emu, ostrich and eel.

Sizes range from cocktail sizes to those measuring 17mm to 50mm. Some of them are Malaysianised such as the satay, rendang and char siew sausages. It has about 12 types of German beers or juices.

Offers pure authentic Nyonya fare cooked in the time-honoured tradition. Features specialised dishes with over 52 dishes, including Nyonya desserts and freshly made Sambal Belacan daily.  

NYONYA RESTAURANT, 52 Jalan SS2/24, PJ (Tel: 03-7875 9709). Business Hrs: Daily, lunch (11.30am-3pm); dinner (5.30pm-9.30pm). It has been in business for the past 29 years, offering authentic Nyonya spread. Dishes worth trying are Kapitan Chicken, Sambal Udang, Kerabu, Assam Fish, Otak-otak, Sambal Petai, Baba Dumpling and Sayur Paku. 

FUNG WONG BISCUITS (FWB), LG 010A, Lower Ground Floor, Mid Valley Megamall, KL (Tel: 03-2284 4806). Business Hrs: Daily (10am-10pm). Non-'Halal'. Its main outlet is in Chinatown, KL. Has been selling home-made traditional Chinese biscuits associated with Chinese culture for the past four decades. Popular for its Chinese Wedding Biscuits (Kit Fun Lai Paeng) and Hong Kong Wife Biscuits (Loh Poh Peh), available throughout the year. Offers meat- and non-meat biscuits, home-made Oriental pizza, sandwiches and Chinese desserts, including house speciality Green Coffee. 

SHROOMS RESTAURANT, Lot 139, 1st Floor, Suria KLCC, KL (Tel: 03-2166 5633). Business Hrs: Daily, lunch (noon-2.30pm); dinner (6pm-midnight). Offers French cuisine fused with Oriental cuisine. Shrooms Early Bird Dinner is from 6pm to 7.30pm daily. Gourmet Set Lunch and Dinner are also available, with a weekly menu change.  

CAFة FLAM, OB2-G-U1&U2, Oasis Boulevard, Sunway Pyramid (Tel: 03-7492 0068). Business Hrs: Daily (noon-1am). Pork-free. Speciality is flam, a type of French Pizza with thinner and crunchier crust, with lightly burnt corners for that extra freshly baked bread aroma. Flams are more suitable as a starter or a titbit to go with your beer. The outlet’s exotic delicacies include escargots. It has a bar and music room with a live jazz band that performs from 7pm to 10pm. 

ZEN JAPANESE RESTAURANT, Lot 082-FU2, First Floor, Oasis Boulevard 2, Sunway Pyramid (Tel: 03-7492 4922). Business Hrs: Mon-Thurs (11am-midnight); Fri-Sun (11am-1am). Pork-free. A swanky outlet with a design similar to the chic urban Japanese restaurants in Japan. Has an outstanding selection of seafood. The menu is fairly extensive and includes French-style food. There are also the value-for-money set lunch and dinner. Offers a full wine bar as well as a large selection of sake.  

KIN NO UMA JAPANESE RESTAURANT, Palace of the Golden Horses, MINES Resort City, Jalan Kuda Emas, Seri Kembangan, Selangor (Tel: 03-8943 2333). Serves a variety of grilled and deep-fried dishes, hot and cold noodles, hot pot dishes and desserts. Bento Express Lunch (Mon-Sat, noon-2.30pm), Saturday Buffet Dinner Doyobi Yoshaoku (6.30pm-10.30pm) and Sunday Buffet Lunch (noon-2.30pm).  

SHEESH MAHAL RESTAURANT, 33 Jalan SS15/5A, Subang Jaya (Tel: 03-5621 3671). Business Hrs: Mon-Fri, lunch (11.30am-3pm); dinner (6pm-10.30pm); Sat & Sun (11.30am-11pm). Specialises in Moghul cuisine, which is well known in Pakistan and Northern India.  

KANNA CURRY HOUSE, 29 Jalan 17/45, PJ (Tel: 03-7958 4814). Business Hrs: Daily (7am-10pm). Its lunch crowd comes as early as 11am for its banana leaf meal. Mutton and quail dishes are available from the a la carte menu. Food here is spicy. Highly recommended are its tairu (fresh yoghurt), moru (thinner yoghurt) and lassi. One of the must-try condiments served with rice is the fried dry chilli stuffed with salt.  

AVANTI ITALIAN-AMERICAN RISTORANTE, Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, Persiaran Lagoon, Bandar Sunway, PJ (Tel: 03-7492 8000 ext 3176). A total of 250 dishes are prepared every night while the menu changes daily on a rotation basis. It has a live cooking station. The Sudut Warisan features the Malaysian BBQ Special for dinner (6.30pm-10pm) only. The restaurant, which exudes Malay rustic charm and seats 500, features live cultural performances between 8.30pm and 9.15pm nightly.  

T.G.I.
