THE Rukun Tetangga (RT) Committee in Taman Para-mount in Section 20, Petaling Jaya, has already started receiving praises after only a month of its formation.
The praises flowed in after com-mittee chairman Andy Lee and his five committee members Tan Chik Hock, Hoo Chee Liang, Cassian Baptist, Michael Yap and Francis Rogers combined efforts to make the Lantern Festival last month a success.
The committee members visited each house covering 24 roads last week in Section 20, including shoplots, to distribute leaflets informing residents about the festival.
The RT Taman Paramount lantern festival, held at the Taman Aman Basketball court last Saturday, drew more than 400 residents in area.
It was not only the Chinese but Indians, Malays, Sikhs and Eurasians who joined the celebrations.
Elizabeth Boudville, 51, said the committee was doing a very good job and should keep it up.
Although I have been living here for 22 years, I do not know some of my neighbours. Today, I met a few and got to know them through this festival.
Besides this, the RT Taman Paramount committee has also formed the neighbourhood watch committee, said Boudville.
Lee said they wanted to enhance ties among the residents.
This way, we can solve many problems, including snatch thefts.''
Women, Family and Community Development Ministry parliamentary secretary Chew Mei Fun and Kampung Tunku assemblyman Datuk Dr Wong Sai Hou attended the celebration.
At the celebration, free blood tests to check for cholesterol and blood pressure levels were conducted.
Entertainment was in the form of a clown, harmonica performance, line dancing, traditional fan dance, Chinese opera performances, mooncake eating festival, a sketch, games and also a lucky draw.
