Auction of designer wear for a cause

DESIGNER togs went under the hammer for a good cause at the Estee Lauder Companies Pink Ribbon Charity Auction at Mid Valley Megamall on Tuesday. 

Seven local designers came up with different interpretations of the kebaya for the auction held as part of the Estee Lauder Companies Pink Ribbon Cancer Awareness Campaign 2005 in aid of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA).

Chairperson of Walk with Pride Azrene Abdullah was guest of honour at the Pink Ribbon Charity Auction where seven interpretations of the kebaya were showcased under the Kebaya with Pink Elements theme. 

Estee Lauder Companies pledge RM30,000 annually to the BCWA. Throughout Pink Ribbon month in October, Estee Lauder Companies run road shows and host fund-raising events while its staff wear pink ribbons.  

Malaysian Idol 1 Jaclyn Victor who performed during the charity auction wore a pink ribbon on her fuchsia top in support of the campaign. A few other familiar faces were seen on the catwalk too including Amber Chia, Nell Ng, Daphne Iking, Soraya Dean and Bernie Chan.  

They wore designs by Carven Ong, Eric Choong, Eric Tho of E-tho, Kem Salleh and Ashley Wong of Kapas, Khoon Hooi, Kirana and Allan Chan and Tino Soon of Salabianca. 

The auction was handled by actress-turned-producer Ida Nerina while bidding for each outfit started at RM1,500. A white-gold bracelet from Tomei Jewellery worth RM3,500 was auctioned off as well. 

At the end of the afternoon, Estee Lauder presented a cheque for RM80,000 to the BCWA, collected from various fund-raising events organised during the Pink Ribbon month.  

The Pink Ribbon Cancer Awareness Campaign kicked off with the highly successful Walk with Pride fashion gala at the JW Marriott Hotel in August and continued with the Pink Ribbon Charity Golf at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in September.  

On Oct 2, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid, NGOs and members of the BCWA led the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at the KLCC Park. 

The Estee Lauder Companies Pink Ribbon road shows will be held from 10.30am to 9.30pm between Oct 17 and 19 at the Cosmetics Department of Sogo Department Store in Kuala Lumpur and between Oct 21 and 23 at Promenade, 1 Utama, Bandar Utama.
