MOTORCYCLE racing enthusiasts will soon have an avenue to show off their skills when an academy for them is set up in Kangar, Perlis.
Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said he had discussed the matter with Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM) that promotes the Petronas Sprinta AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship and both parties have agreed to set up the academy soon.
For a start, Shahidan said they plan to come up with a team named Singa Utara (Northern Lion) that would take part in championships.
“I want all those involved in illegal racing to join the academy to get proper training.
“This way the racers would appreciate racing in a proper and safer way and not endanger their lives,” he told reporters after handing out prizes to the winners of a motor racing championship here recently. The race in Perlis was the seventh round of the championship, with the final race to be held on Dec 4 at the Sepang International Circuit.
Shahidan added that once the academy was set up, weekly training sessions could be conducted.
