SCHOLARS in the old days recited poems and sought inspiration under a bright moon.
Budding singers today warble to the same moon, hoping it will put them on the path to fame.
Ten young talents put their best foot forward in a singing competition at Cheras Leisure Mall, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 16 in conjunction with the Lantern Festival.
They had been chosen from 80 hopefuls, aged between 14 and 20 years, from an audition held earlier.
Singing alone is not good enough for one to shine on stage nowadays, so the finalists had to deliver a presentation of not more than five minutes. They danced, acted and told jokes.
The winners were judged on vocals and diction, showmanship and overall presentation of the performance.
Vivian Loke Siew Yen, Lai Kuan Yee and Choo Kok How bagged the first three prizes, worth RM7,000, RM4,500 and RM3,300 respectively.
