Telco offers chance to catch World Cup on 3G phones

OWNERS of 3G cellphones can enjoy video-streaming content from the 2006 Fifa World Cup tournament in Germany next year with the latest Maxis 2006 Fifa World Cup package. 

Customers will get to watch highlights and breaking news of the tournament and classic moments of previous World Cup competitions. 

Ying launching the package and announcing the sponsorship details recently.

“What’s more, customers will also enjoy an extensive range of football content via MMS and SMS, such as real-time goal updates, red and yellow cards, free kicks and highlights of matches played in Germany,” Maxis Communications Bhd chief operating officer Edward Ying said. 

The launch also saw the telco unveiling its sponsorship of the World Cup tournament in Germany. 

“Because of football’s broad appeal to Malaysians, Maxis has come onboard as the main broadcast sponsor of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Malaysia.  

“One of our growth strategies includes reaching out to new target segments and we are confident this sponsorship will help us to do so,” he said. 

Customers also stand a chance to win cash prizes of up to RM800,000 in contests to be kicked off next month. World Cup merchandise and prepaid reload card collectibles featuring players and teams will also be available. 

Customers can start subscribing to the Classic World Cup contents from November onwards.
