ALTHOUGH National Day holds a special meaning for Malaysians in general, many tend to forget Sept 16, the day when Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963.
For consultant company Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd, however, Malaysia Day is an occasion to celebrate as it holds an added significance - it is the company’s big day and also part of its vision to foster the sharing of universal values among people.
The event has been an annual feature since 2001.
“Zubedy was incorporated on May 24, but we have chosen to make Hari Malaysia our company’s big day. This is because we believe that business goals must be tied to something much larger than the business itself.
“That is why we tie our corporate vision to Unity. And, Hari Malaysia is a day of unity,” said Zubedy managing director Anas Zubedy.
To translate its vision to reality, Zubedy extended invitations to some 100 clients to commemorate the occasion at their office premises on Sept 16.
Themed “Many Colours, One Race'', the event proved to be an informal get-together among old and new friends.
Guests were encouraged to visit the Aroma Corner to choose their favourite among a range of scents to be featured on the Unity Tree, and were also treated to a scrumptious Malaysian dinner.
For entertainment, there was a video clip promoting unity, as well as a short song and dance entitled “Pelbagai Nada, Satu Irama'' performed by the employees of Zubedy.
“We must always find new ways to promote unity and make it fashionable,” said Anas, before dinner was served.
