After a few months’ lull, the Tupah recreational park, about 14km from Bedong near Sungai Petani, is back in the news with its infamous notoriety.
Young couples are flocking the park again for their rendezvous, and unknowingly their trysts were videotaped.
The park was deserted after continuous raids by the Sungai Petani Islamic Religious Department against khalwat (close proximity) a few months ago.
The couples’ return has also attracted peeping Toms or locally known as ‘mat skodeng’, one of whom was caught video recording the trysts.
A Sungai Petani Islamic Religious Department enforcement officer, who declined to be named, confirmed that a ‘mat skodeng’ was caught videotaping recently.
He said the suspect was released on police bail pending investigation.
The officer said those who were caught for khalwat were teenagers, students, married men and their partners.
“Most of those caught have repented but some returned thinking that the religious officers have stopped raiding the place,” he said.
Kuala Muda CID chief DSP Mohd Ismon Suratman said police had seized VCDs entitled VCD Lubuk Tupah at night markets and had nabbed a few suspects related to the production of the VCDs.
