Lights out to keep padi bugs at bay


B>Those living near padi fields in Butterworth, where the burning of padi chaff is being conducted, should draw their curtains and minimise the usage of fluorescent lights to prevent rove beetles from being attracted to them. 

Seberang Prai Municipal Council chief health inspector M. Raju said yesterday beetles, known as semut semai among the locals, usually took flight from padi fields at sundown and would head to where the lights were switched on.
