NiE activities for Hutchings students

STUDENTS at SMK Hutchings in Farquhar Street, Penang, now have a chance to take part in The Star-NiE (Newspaper-in-Education) activities – thanks to Advanced Micro Devices Export Sdn Bhd (AMD).

The company is sponsoring 2,000 copies of The Star a month for the school until December.

AMD managing director Mohd Sofi Osman said the sponsorship was part of the company's efforts to em-power people to lead a more productive life.

He said other activities undertaken by the company included recycling and visits to welfare homes.

“We are also sponsoring a science carnival for schools next month,” he said, adding that AMD had been adopting a school yearly for The Star-NiE programme since 2003.

Speaking to several students earlier during his visit, Mohd Sofi said schools should not be viewed as just a place to study for examinations.

“What is most important is the knowledge that you acquire and not the distinctions you obtained in exams.

“Once a person stops learning, he starts dying.”
