An uphill task, but the fight goes on for a decade

The fight to preserve the forest in Bukit Gasing dates back to the early 1990s when four residents in its neighbourhood began a campaign that generated huge support. The encouragement came not only from fellow residents in Bukit Gasing, but also from residents around the Klang Valley.  

Back then, the objective was to ensure the Selangor government did not de-gazette some 37.3ha for development. The area was gazetted in 1961 (Gazette notification 807-61).
