Mohamad, who is also called Tok Mat, said the agreement between Umno and PAS would only serve as a reference for both sides in their working cooperation.
“This is only a reference.
"Once it is enforced, there will be a committee at the state, division and branch levels for them to know what is to be carried out to continue with our agenda," he said.
"It does not mention the distribution of seats between Umno and PAS at all," said Mohamad after officiating the Pontian Umno division meeting here on Saturday (Aug 3).
It was recently reported that Umno and PAS would sign a memorandum of understanding and joint charter on Sept 14 as they moved to consolidate their partnership.
In a joint statement signed by Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, both political parties indicated their intent to work together.
The signing will take place at the Merdeka Hall of the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and it is said to include an agreement between Umno and PAS to not contest against each other when campaigning for parliament seats.
Both parties intend to have a straight fight with Pakatan Harapan in the next general election.
