At the height of the floods, volunteers used polystyrene platforms like this one to deliver bread to flood victims stranded in their homes in Taman Sri Rambai, Bukit Mertajam.

FOR a few days, the fish were among us. Some might have swum right between my legs and I would never have known.

Many rivers broke their bunds and floodgates, and with their water pouring unhindered into the land, fish came into our streets for days.
